Strip Bar Haiku

Signs in the window:

Topless!

Bottomless!

I hurry inside.

There’s no one there.

Funny Old Memory

What would your parents say

If they knew you were seeing

A guy my age? Say? What

Would they do? Summon

The Mounties? Call out

The dogs of war? Or

A protestant minister

In a cheap suit to

Pray for me? If I

Dated your mother

I’d be keeping company

With a much younger woman.

So what does this say

About me and you?

I don’t care as long

As you come over here

And do what you do. My

Cinnamon, my nectarine,

My soft ice cream.

Your ex-boyfriend wears

A hoodie, knows you have

Someone else but he doesn’t

Know who. Maybe he’ll come

Gunning for me

In his daddy’s car. Where’s

He going to look first, the

Mall? Dude’s gonna be

Some kind of surprised.

If you see him, set him

Straight. It’s about quality

Not frequency.

You keep loving me the way

You do and I just might do

Your homework for you.

You’re the darling buds of May

And I’m crusty December but no

Ice has formed around my heart.

Have all my hair,

I’m not a physical wreck.

Got a washboard stomach

And a pension cheque.

And you have the softest neck

And rubbery skin, like

I never dreamed

I’d ever feel again.

And you have all

The world and all

Its time, and this moment

For you will turn

Into just some

Funny old

Memory.
